Beef goulash Recipe
(serves 4 to 6 )

 

Ingredients:

2 tbsp/ 30 ml
3 1/2 lbs/ 1.6 kg
3
3 tbsp/ 45 ml
3
4 tbsp/ 60 ml
4 cups/ 1 L
1 tbsp/ 15 ml
1 tsp/ 5 ml
1/2 tsp/ 2 ml
 

 

olive oil
blade steak, in 3/4 in (2 cm) cubes
onions, sliced
paprika
garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
flour
beef stock, heated
basil
caraway seeds
thyme
salt and pepper

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 oF (160 oC).

  2. Heat half of oil in ovenproof saute pan over medium heat. Add half of meat and sear well on all sides. Season with salt and pepper. Remove meat from pan and set aside. Add remaining oil to pan and repeat searing technique for remaining meat. Place all meat aside.

  3. Add onions to hot pan and cook 8 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally. add paprika and garlic; mix well and cook 8 minutes over medium heat.

  4. Return meat to saute pan. Sprinkle in flour and mix well. Cook 4 minutes over low heat. add remaining ingredients and season; mix well. Bring to boil, cover and cook 3 hours in oven.

  5. Serve with sour cream and boiled potatoes.
